It’s “Smooth Sailing” When We Follow the Rules!

The following list includes my expectations on how students should behave at school.  When children follow these rules, we are able to have successful, safe, fun learning experiences.

In the classroom children are expected to:
-Listen nicely while I teach.
-Raise hand (during lessons) for permission to talk.
-Follow directions the first time that they are given.
-Work to the best of their ability.
-Allow
their classmates to work to the best of their ability.
-Use good manners.
-Treat their classmates with kindness.

In the bathroom and hall children are expected to:
- Use a quiet voice.
-Walk in a straight line.

In the lunchroom children are expected to:
- Use good manners.
-Clean up after themselves.

Outside or in the gym children are expected to:
-Be nice to all children and include them in their play.
-Never push, shove, hit, etc. another child.

It is my strong belief that while there must be rules in place and the children must know exactly what is expected of them, positive encouragement is extremely important.  I try to always look for the wonderful things your child does and praise him or her for these things.  I not only use praise and smiles to emphasize good behavior, but I send positive notes home, give out stickers and small toys, let children enjoy trips to the treasure box and have good behavior celebrations.

Each Friday you will receive a Weekly Progress Report that will let you know how your child did in class.  Please share this progress report with your child.  Then, sign the report and have your child return it to school on Monday.

I hope that this information helps you to better understand my beliefs on how children should behave in school and how I encourage these positive behaviors each day.
