Attention, parents of 5th Graders...

In all the elementary schools, 5th grade students are learning
to play the soprano recorder. The recorder is an ancient
woodwind
instrument that comes in several sizes. I am
providing the students
with sheet music to play, and this music
is theirs to keep.
In order for students to make good progress
on the
recorder, the children need to practice playing the
instruments between music lessons at school.
Please encourage your 5th grader to
practice the
recorder regularly at home.

Supplies

*  4th and 5th graders are asked to bring a folder
and pencil to music each week.

*  5th grade students need a recorder to play.
Each
semester I place an order for students who
wish to purchase
one of these instruments.
Students are also welcome to
buy a recorder at
another music store of their choice,
provided
that the instrument is a Baroque-fingered

soprano recorder of reasonably good quality and
intonation. Each elementary school has a small
supply of recorders as well, and these can be
checked out to students much in the way that
library books are checked out.  We encourage
each child to buy a recorder of his/her own, and
students are welcome to use the recorder of an
older brother or sister.

Written Work

* There will be a limited amount of written work in
the upper grades, and none in the younger grades.

If you have questions about your child's music
class, please feel free to write me a message.
