The Process |
|
Your group will consist of a team of three types of experts. Your team will create a power point presentation that will be presented to the citizens of Burnsville. STEP 1: Read the descriptions for each expert and choose two people for each type of expert. Click on the link to find the questions you will need to answer. These people are experts on how tornadoes form, tornado types, and tornado prediction or detection. These experts will become knowledgeable of the Fujita Scale, the difference between a tornado warning and a tornado watch, and what to do in the event a tornado is moving towards a person’s location. These experts will be responsible for researching information on the location of past tornadoes, damages caused by these tornadoes, and the intensity (based on the Fujita Scale) of these tornadoes. You also need to write a “fake” interview of a tornado survivor. STEP 2: You and your partners working as experts will respond to the questions by researching the information by clicking on the links. STEP 3: When your pairs have completed their research, you will meet with the rest of the group to create a report of the information to present to the community. STEP 4: You will present a weather report with your group, as if the disaster was occurring at that time. Here is the outline of the presentation: · The meteorologist will start with a description of the basic facts about a tornado—formed, type, and detected, using a PowerPoint presentation. He/she will turn the report over to the safety engineer. · The safety engineer will briefly describe the Fujita Scale; explain a watch and warning; present the signs; and the preparation needed if a tornado is detected. · The historian will give historic facts of past disasters tell what a tornado victim said and the main points of the disaster. Then, he/she will turn it back over to the meteorologist. · The meteorologist will sum up the events and conclude the presentation. |
