Behavorial
Intervention Services
A Behavior Intervention Specialist/Liaison is available to work with
students who are in the Exceptional Children’s Program who
are
experiencing behavioral and/or emotional problems.
Interventions/Services available include but are not limited to the
following:
- Linking students and their families with community resources
- Providing supportive counseling
- Working with teachers and other care team members to develop Behavior Teaching Plans and/or Behavior Intervention Plans
- Working individually with students to assist in the development of needed skills such as coping skills, anger management skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills, etc.
- Working in small groups with students to assist in the development of needed skills such as developing age appropriate interpersonal relationships, problem solving skills, anger management skills, organizational skills, coping skills, etc.
- Functional Behavioral Assessments
- Participating in the Yancey County Community Collaborative and advocating for local resources.
- Working as a part of the IEP team to develop goals to maximize success.
- Working collaboratively with school counselors, school social workers and other school based support personnel to maximize monitoring and support systems for students served.
This service is available to students who have an IEP.
Referrals
may be made by parents, teachers, or administrators who have concerns
about a student who is having behavioral or emotional issues that are
impacting his/her education.

at 682-6101 and ask for Patty Hughes, Behavior Intervention
Specialist/Liaison.
