K-3rd
Nurturing Program*
4th-5th
Identified Program**
*Nurtured
students are referred by the classroom teacher. These
students must exhibit specific advanced academic
performance according to a
grade level appropriate guideline. Nurtured
students are pulled out of the regular
classroom once a week for 30 minutes. They are
engaged in activities that have been designed to promote critical
thinking skills and enhance deductive reasoning. Placement
is based on a yearly review of the student's academic
performance at each grade level.
**Identified students come from a pool based on NCEOG scores.
This list is given to the 4th and 5th grade teachers for
possible referral for
identification. Automatic placement occurs when the
student scores 97% and higher on NCEOG
Tests or 91% and higher on an individual IQ test.
Placement will also be based upon portfolio assessments for
those students
not achieiving automatic placement.
