Computer Applications II Curriculum

The goal of this class is to teach students the computer skills they will need to succeed both on the job and at college.  The Microsoft Office 2000 software package is used in this class.  The following topics are covered:

  • Emerging Technology.  Students investigate new technology devices and their benefits.  Students learn to use a scanner and digital camera.
  • Internet Applications.  Students learn to create and use e-mail accounts.  They learn to reply and forward messsages, send attachments with messages and set up address books and group lists.  Students also use search engines to locate information on the Internet.
  • Desktop Publishing.  (Microsoft Publisher)  Students learn to design, create and save desktop publishing documents.  They use advanced desktop publishing features to create business cards, business letterhead, newsletters, flyer, advertisements and brochures.
  • Presentation Software.  (Microsoft PowerPoint)  Students learn to design, create and save presentations; use animations and transitions; and set automatic timings for presentations.  Students use advanced presentation software features to create hyperlinks within their presentations and insert sound and video.  Students also gain valuable speaking skills in this unit.
  • Web Page Development.  Students learn to create simple web pages containing pictures and hyperlinks.  Students then develop a fictitious business web site based on their career goal. This website contains information about their career and college choices.
