E-Commerce Curriculum
This course is designed to help students master
skills in the design and construction of complex web sites for conducting
business electronically. Emphasis is on skill development in advanced
web page construction and entrepreneurial applications of conducting business
electronically. Also covered are economic, social, legal and ethical
issues related to electronic business. The following topics are covered:

The Electronic Commerce Environment. Students
learn to describe and classify different electronic commerce activities
conducted by consumers, b2b and business with consumers.

The Impact of the Internet on Business.
Students will analyze the instantaneous response of the Internet in business,
research the impact of the Internet on the globalization of business and
investigate the economic impact of e-commerce.

Social, Legal and Ethical Issues of E-Commerce.
Students will compare and contrast copyright and trademark laws, evaluate
appropriate copyright and trademark compliance and explain how to register
copyrights and trademarks. Students will also investigate computer
security issues, apply proper citation methods and learn about laws affecting
e-commerce.

Design Considerations. Students will analyze
e-business structure and functions, target marketing on the Internet and
marketing functions. Students will evaluate elements of good web page design,
investigate web design features and create storyboards for a web site.

Web Site Development.
Students will evaluate, select and utilize appropriate tools in the creation
of web pages. Students will learn to create forms, frames, image
maps and tables. They will also learn to incorporate different types
of media as well as JavaScript and Java applets. Students will analyze
hardware and software requirements for hosting a web site. They will
learn how to promote their web sites on the Internet and analyze web site
maintenance issues.

Capstone Project.
Students will produce a capstone project which will be a web site for a
fictitious business. Samples of these websites may be accessed from
the Computer Applications Home Page.
