Bob McGuire Memorial Scholarship
At least one parent must be a member of the North Carolina Child Support Council of the Child Support Program.  Must be a resident of NC and a graduating high school senior, maintain an overall C average during his/her high school career, must be accepted and planning to attend a NC school of higher learning.  See Ms. Gavenus for more info.

Burger King  Scholarship Program
More than 1,500 scholarships totaling $1,000 each will be awarded to graduating seniors.  Nomination process. Criteria: High school senior, must be employed at least 15 hours per week (employment at Burger King is not required) for 40 weeks per year, have a gpa of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0, demonstrates participation in community service and/or co-curricular activities, demonstrates a financial need. In addition, you must obtain written recommendations/signatures from a school official and employer.

Community Foundation of Western North Carolina  Common Scholarships
Several scholarships are available ranging from $500 to $2,500. Recipients are selected on a competitive basis, considering academic and non-academic factors and demonstrated financial need.  Many of the funds target students from specific areas of interest to the donor including successful performance in high school, high school attended, and academic or career focus.  Applications available spring semester.  See Ms. Gavenus for more info.

Educational Tours Global Citizen Awards
EF Tours is now calling for submissions to its annual essay competition for college-bound high school seniors, the EF Global Citizen Awards.  Nominees are asked to reflect upon and describe in a brief essay a specific incident in their own communities that has encouraged them to live as global citizens.  Each School will nominate and single student and send his or her Essay directly to EF, along with their completed application form.   12 winning essays will be chosen and the winners will travel together on a 10-day all expenses paid  educational tour of Europe.  Applications can be downloaded at http://www.eftours.com/globalcitizen.

Must show High Financial Need. Gardner- Webb University- University Fellows Scholarship Competition
High school seniors are eligible.  Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher, an SAT score of at least 1130 and an ACT composite score of 24.

Gates Millennium Scholarship
Must be a senior who is Asian Pacific Islander American, African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, or Hispanic American. Must be a US citizen, GPA above 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate leadership, community service, extracurricular activities. Must meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.  All 3 required forms must be completed and submitted by the deadline. The Jagannathan Scholarship

The John Cannon Memorial Scholarship

North Carolina Bar Association Scholarship

NC Bowling Scholarship Fund
Any senior student in a North Carolina high school is eligible.  Also must meet the following requirements. Be a member of a local YABA bowling league in good standing for the season, or have parents and/or guardians are either a member of a NC WIBC or ABC local association in good standing for the current season, a child of a deceased member within one year of the application,  maintain a gpa consistent with good standing at the school.  Applications are in the counseling department. North Carolina Farm Bureau Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders (IFAL)

North Carolina Prospective Teacher Scholarship Loan
Applicant must be a legal resident of North Carolina, a US Citizen and not already holding teacher licensure. Minimum SAT score of 900 with a minimum cummulative GPA of 3.0(unweighted on a 4.0 scale). Must be a senior.  Must attend a public or private North Carolina college or university with an approved teacher education program.

North Carolina Division of Veteran's Affairs Scholarships
Eligibility: Children of disabled, deceased, combat or POW/MIA war veterans.  Must also be a life long resident of the state of North Carolina and plan on attending one of the universities, community colleges or technical institutes within the state of North Carolina.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program
Must be a legal resident of North Carolina and a graduating senior of a public, charter or private secondary school in North Carolina. Must have a minimum SAT score of 1100 for Math and Verbal, and a minimum grade point average of 3.5(unweighted, on a 4.0 scale) and be recommended by their high school for competition at the state level.  Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic excellence.  Recipents are eligible to receive awards of $1500 per year for the maximum of 4  years if they are enrolled full time in an accredited institution.

A non-renewable $1,000 scholarship awarded to a student for their first year of undergraduate study at an accredited college or university.  To qualify: student must be a graduating high school senior and may not be a Wal-Mart associate of the child of a Wal-Mart Associate. Recognizes outstanding scholar athletes who are seniors in high schools throughout the US.  1 athlete from each school will be selected to earn a $7500 college scholarship, an invitation to Walt Disney World Complex, and an opportunity to be pictured in a special congratulatory Milk Mustache Ad in June 2005. SEANC Scholarship
Students who are the children of State employees who are enrolled in the State Employees Association of North Carolina are eligible.  Scholarship can be used at a 4 year or 2 year college. 4 year scholarship is worth $1,000 and 2 year is worth $500.  In order to apply, you must: Enroll full time at a 4 year or 2 year college or University, Parent must be a member of SEANC. United States Senate Youth Program
This program  is open to junior and seniors, provides 2 students from each state a week's internship on government and United States Senate, plus a $5,000 scholarship.  In order to be considered the following requirements must be met : student must complete and application,  must be currently serving in an elected office in school government. Typed essay and take a short exam.

Veterans Benefit Programs
Children of disabled, deceased, combat, or POW/MIA war veterans.  If your veteran parent was a resident of North Carolina when He/She entered Military service or if you are a lifelong resident of North Carolina, you may be eligible for a scholarship from the state of North Carolina to attend one of the universities, community colleges or Technical Institutes within the state.

Voice of Democracy Scholarship Program
Open to students in grades 9-12th.
