OpenOffice.org is an Open Source (free), multi-platform office productivity suite. It includes desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suites. OpenOffice.org also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office.
Every computer that has Internet access must be protected with anti-virus software. There are several good products commercially available, but AVG Anti-Virus by Grisoft has a version of their software that can be downloaded for free for home users.
In addition to anti-virus software, computers with Internet access should have a program to detect and remove “spyware” and “adware” files that can be loaded on your computer without your knowledge. Spybot Search & Destroy is a free download.

Ad-Aware Personal		 Ad-Aware Personal provides protection from known data-mining, aggressive advertising, Trojans, dialers, malware, browser hijackers, and tracking components. This software is downloadable free of charge.
