Yancey County Schools is nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina providing education to approximately 
2,400 students through six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school, and a K-8 alternative program.

    YCS Federal Programs Annual Public Input Meeting to be Held

    On Tuesday, May 9th, the Yancey County Schools’ Annual Federal Programs Public Input Meeting will be held at the Yancey County Schools Board of Education Office, 100 School Drive in the YCS Board Room at 4:00pm.  The purpose of the meeting is to receive public input, provide updated information, and discuss the Title I, II, III, VI, and Exceptional Children Programs’ planning documents for the 2017-18 school year.  This will include a review of the Parent Involvement initiatives in each federal program. 

    If you have questions concerning a particular school’s Federal Program resources or the overall district programs, please feel free to call the Federal Programs Director at YCS Central Office, 682-6101 (ext. 302).  Any non-public school not already contacted that still desires information about these federal grant programs can contact the Federal Programs Director at YCS as well.  We look forward to seeing community stakeholders on May 9th.

    Yancey County Schools Seeks Input from Private Schools for Federal Programs Funding Application   Yancey County Schools is beginning to plan the Title I, II, III, VI, and 21st CCLC Federal Grant programs for the 2017-18 school year.  Qualifying private schools within the area may be eligible to apply for these federal funds.  Private School eligibility information is available at the US Department of Education website, http://www2.ed.gov/programs/titleiparta/index.html, or by contacting Shane Cassida, Yancey County Schools Federal Program Director, P. O. Box 190, Burnsville, NC  28714; by phone at 828.682.6101 Ext. 302; or by email at wscassida@yanceync.net.  

    Middle School Transition Night for all rising 6th grade students and their families will be this Thursday at 828.682.6101 Ext. 302; or by email at wscassida@yanceync.net. ay, April 6th for both Cane River and East Yancey Middle Schools.  The Cane River Middle School Transition Night will be from 5:30 – 7:00pm and the East Yancey Middle School Transition Night will be from 6:30 – 8:00pm.

  • Health-e-Schools Medical Services Available for Elementary and High School Students  Health-e-Schools would like to remind parents that medical services are available to your students during school hours. Same day appointments are available & can be scheduled from the nurse’s office at your school, or by emailing appts@crhi.org. If your child is sick, he or she can see a medical provider while at school, may be able to finish the school day, and you won’t have to miss work!   • Yancey County Schools Hosts Yancey Preschool Registration Celebration Yancey County Schools, who is the NC Pre-Kindergarten Program Contract Administrator for Yancey County, is hosting a Preschool Registration Celebration for Yancey County families on Wednesday, February 15th at the Burnsville Town Center.  Festivities begin at 9 am and end at 5 pm.  The event is the first opportunity for families with eligible infants through five year-old children to register to attend one of the county’s many child care/preschool facilities for the 2017-18 school year.   If a family has a child that will turn four before August 31, 2017 and they meet the NC Pre-K Program eligibility standards, they may further qualify for free NC Pre-K slots at one of the three ...
