MHHS Senior Braxton Batchelor recently received the Riley Carl Howell Courage Award at the 64th WNC Sports Awards banquet. Braxton was recognized for the character and resilience he showed after losing his home during Hurricane Helene. He stated that the experience taught him how quickly things can be lost and not to take anything for granted.

Braxton, a key member of the Cougar football team, has earned significant accolades, including all-conference, all-WNC, and all-state honors as an offensive player. Despite facing adversity, Braxton's positive attitude was evident as he accepted his award and sincerely thanked those who supported him through his difficulties. “Just to give it everything you’ve got,” he shared, “so just give everything you have because there’s no promise to tomorrow.”
