Stop-arm awareness requires halting for school buses with flashing red lights in both directions unless on a divided highway. #LoveTheBus

4 months ago, Yancey County Schools
School Bus Safety Red Lights Flashing: Stop at least 20 feet behind or ahead of the bus and remain stopped until lights stop flashing and the arm is retracted. Divided Highways: If there is a median or physical barrier separating traffic, only cars traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop. Yellow Lights: Flashing yellow lights mean the bus is preparing to stop; slow down and prepare to stop. No Passing: Never pass a stopped school bus with red lights flashing, as it is illegal and dangerous.
