We have amazing students and staff members who are helping serve at our shelters. This is what community is all about 💗

Because there are still so many families in need and our infrastructure is still being worked on: power, water, sewer, internet, roadways, buildings and rescue efforts. YCS will remain closed all next week for students, faculty & staff.
Any employee who is able to come work at our schools should contact your principal or report to Blue Ridge Elementary for possible assignments.
Anybody who needs supplies can pick them up at West Burnsville Baptist Church, Altec, local fire departments and Burnsville, Blue Ridge or Cane River Schools.

Go to your local fire department for supplies & assistance. Any staff or families that are venturing out can stop by any school except Micaville Elementary & MHHS to leave a message so we know you are safe.

Schools are closed all week. We will give an update by 4pm on Thursday. Staff who are able to safely travel may try to contact your principal or report to Blue Ridge Elementary or Cane River Middle School to help work.

An emergency shelter will be open in the cafeteria of South Toe Elementary school for tonight for anyone that may need assistance.

As we prepare for the upcoming storms, please use caution and take measures to stay safe.

School Closed Thursday, Sept 26th & Friday, Sept 27th

The 5th grade classes had loads of fun over the past 2 days at Patience Park Campground. Students learned about animals and plant life whose habitat is the Toe River. A big Thank You to Mrs. Tressa Hartsell, her students and the volunteers for making this awesome educational opportunity available for our students.

Yancey County Sheriff Shane Hilliard has shared the following update.
"After further investigation, we've confirmed that this post originated over three weeks ago in another state and was shared locally purely for information.
At this time, there is still no credible threat to our schools. We appreciate the community's vigilance and encourage everyone to continue reporting concerns directly to law enforcement rather than sharing unverified information.
Your safety remains our top priority and we will keep you informed with any new updates."
YCS appreciates Sheriff Shane Hilliard and his team for their quick response.

Good morning YCS parents,
We received notification that a social media threat has been made at Mountain Heritage High School. We take all threats seriously and we're investigating the incident.
At this time, Sheriff Shane Hilliard believes the threat was a notification that was sent to high schools around the region and this threat to MHHS is not credible.
We will keep you posted today on the investigation.
Thank you.

Blue Ridge Elementary Groundbreaking for the new addition was a great success! Thank you to NC Senator Ralph Hise, County Manager Lynn Austin, Commissioner Mark Ledford, Harper General Contractors, MPS Architects, Branch Civil and our wonderful BRES faculty, staff and YCS Board of Ed members for a great ceremony.
Special thanks to BRES 5th graders for doing a great job reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and participating in the groundbreaking.
