Good evening, this is Mr. Byland with several announcements from East Yancey Middle School, There is a mandatory DC trip meeting on March 10th in the cafeteria. If your child is going on the trip, you must attend this meeting. Chaperones will have an additional meeting after this meeting. If you cannot attend this meeting, you need to call, me, Mr. Byland and set up a time to meet. Monday is the last day to pay for the 8th grade field trip to Dollywood. Your student should have brought home an opt out form for the annual Risk and Behavior Survey. If you would prefer your child not to complete this anonymous survey, simply send the form back to East Yancey or call the front office. From our sports section: Soccer is at Watauga on Monday and at home on Wednesday Softball is at home on Monday and at Cranberry on Thursday Baseball is at Cane River on Monday and at Cranberry on Thursday Thanks, and as always, GO PANTHERS!

Due to a gas line break at Cane River Middle School, students have been evacuated to Blue Ridge Elementary School. Students will be dismissed from there. Buses will take students home as normal. Parents can pick up their children at BRES beginning at 11:30 a.m. Please enter at the main entrance and follow the pick-up line. If you need to change your child's pick up instructions, please call BRES at 828-682-8150.

Good evening, This message is for 8th grade parents. As a reminder we have the 8th grade dance meeting tonight at EY at 5pm if you'd like to help out with that. Also, all 8th graders will register for high school classes on Friday afternoon. The money for the Dollywood 8th grade trip is due March 2. Thanks and as always, GO PANTHERS!

We were so thrilled to have DARE for all of our seventh graders! DARE Graduation On Friday featured an awesome guest speaker, and every student received a DARE t-shirt from the YCS Sheriff's Department. A huge thank you to Sheriff Hilliard and Deputy Amber Ayers for making this a reality for our students!

Happy SRO Appreciation Day! We are extremely grateful for the Yancey County Sheriff's Office partnering with us to provide School Resource Officers (SRO) at each school site. These men and women commit themselves every day to the safety of our students, staff and school communities.

Our 8th graders will have a question and answer session with the high school counselors on Tuesday during arts. From our sports section: Soccer is at Mitchell on Monday at 5:30. Good evening, Bus 133 will have substitute driver for two weeks. Please have students out to be picked up a little early as we adjust. Tomorrow, Wednesday the 11th, bus 133 will not run in the afternoon, it will run in the morning. Thanks and as always GO PANTHERS!

Good evening, this is Mr. Byland with several announcements from East Yancey Middle School, Mountain Heritage will have a parent night for all 8th graders at 6pm on February 16th. 8th grade parents that want to help out with the 8th grade dance, please come to East Yancey at 5pm on February 24th. If your child is going on the DC trip, all payments are due Friday if you haven’t already done so. Due to the Winter Weather Advisory that has been issued for our area, Yancey County Schools will dismiss early today, Friday, February 6, 2026.

Possible snow accumulation, high winds and dropping temperatures are forecasted for this afternoon and evening. Please travel with caution.

Our students will be dismissed at the following times today:
Elementary Schools 2:00 p.m.
High School 2:15 p.m.
Middle Schools 2:30 p.m.

So once again, all YCS students will be dismissed early today.
