My personal and professional careers have given me solid experience and a vested interest in our local school system and I know it is important that this school board makes every effort to work collaboratively and respectfully with parents, children, teachers, administrators, other board members, and the superintendent to achieve success for every student in Yancey County Schools. I understand the importance of retaining qualified teachers and staff for progressive student achievement. I want to make sure that parents, children, teachers, administrators, faculty, staff, and school board members understand that we all have responsibilities affecting the education of our students. Together we can make a difference!

Educating our children and young adults tops the list of our community’s most important work. Thank you for the opportunity to serve. I am so thankful for public schools and for devoted staff, parents, and volunteers who strive to improve the quality of life for our students and our community. Doing what is best must always be the goal.

Leaders become more effective when they listen, study, and then make decisions. Respectful relationships and shared decision-making inspire good faith and confidence in the process. I am committed to working together with parents, students, schools, our Board, and the community to establish an honored trust, to champion the best of the past, and to create sound, innovative educational environments for the future.

My years as a teacher, assistant principal, central office administrator, community volunteer, parent, and now grandparent provide varied perspectives that help in understanding the whole picture. Our children, families, and school employees deserve our support and the very best educational settings and opportunities we can provide. I am optimistic about what we can accomplish when we work together for the good of students, families, and staff. Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve in this important work.

I am excited to be part of this board because I believe it is an opportunity to give back to a school system that has given so much to ensure the success of all the student body. I believe this can be attributed to children, parents, teachers, administrators, and board having one common goal - the success of the youth of Yancey County. I thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve on the board and I covet your prayers and support. The success of this board depends on all participating and being involved in a school system that desires to excel above all obstacles to the betterment of our community. Together we will make a difference.

I could not be more proud of having been a teacher in Yancey County for the past 29 years. As a member of the Board of Education, I am committed to continuing our tradition of giving students an opportunity for the very best public education possible. A quality education is everyone’s right and responsibility, and, as in every aspect of life, educational achievement requires hard work, dedication and foresight from all involved.
