Superintendent

Superintendent of Yancey County Schools

Mrs. Kathy Amos

My name is Kathy Amos and I am humbled and honored to be superintendent of Yancey County Schools. I look forward to working together with the parents, school staff, community, and local government while striving for excellence in every area for our students.

I am an ASU Mountaineer! I was born in Asheville and I grew up in Hendersonville. After graduating from West Henderson High School, I attended Appalachian State University (ASU) and Gardner-Webb University for my master’s degree. I obtained my Educational Specialist degree (Ed.S) from ASU. I have worked in Burke County Public Schools for 27 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my educational journey as a teacher, assistant principal, and elementary and high school principal. During the last four years, I have served at the central office as the Director of Advanced Learning for the school system.

My husband, Doug, and I have been married for 24 years. He is a retired captain with the NC Highway Patrol and is currently employed by WNC Real Estate at Lake James. We are blessed with three great kids. I love to spend time with my family, travel, cook, garden, and read. I also like to attend various artistic performances and sporting events, hike, camp, and trout fish.

I am student focused, and I look forward to helping our students explore and reach their life-long dreams. Teachers, parents, community leaders, business and industry partners - please know that my central office team and I look forward to assisting you and your family.
